Torun (Thorn) - the best city in Poland
So,
it is a second blog post… Thank you all for your comments and support after
posting my first one – much appreciated π
Torun on the Poland's map |
As I mentioned before the second post is about my hometown Torun (Thorn).
I have to say
that while I was watching the promotional video (you can find it clicking on
the underlined Torun word – hyperlink – that is how it is professionally called,
again I learned something new π) I actually became
very emotional… I wasn’t at home for more than 2 years now due to ongoing
pandemic, and I’m extremely missing my dad and friends in there ☹
Anyway, enough of the weepy talk, time to write
about the best city to visit in Poland π
Torun’s emblem is an
angel holding a key to the city’s gate, this is why the city is frequently
referred as City of Angels. You may find this logo on the buildings, taxis and
buses and among other locations.
Old Town Map |
Fortunately, Torun did
not suffer severe damage during the war, and therefore the most of the gothic
structures remain intact, with the exception of the Krzyzacki Castle (Zamek
Krzyzacki) that became severely demolished during the battle of Torun. I’m not
sure if you are aware that the Medieval Town of ToruΕ is on UNESCO World Cultural
and Natural Heritage sites.
Nicolaus Copernicus statue |
Another interesting
fact is that the famous astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus (Mikolaj
Kopernik) was born in Torun. He is close to my heart as his birthday is the
same as my daughter 19 February π While visiting Torun
you must see the house where he was
born and the nearby planetarium.
Gingerbread |
Also Torun is
well-known for gingerbread production thus for gingerbread lovers I can
recommend The Living Museum of Gingerbread (Muzeum
Piernika) where you may make your own gingerbreads!!
Krzywa Wieza (Leaning Tower) |
Krzywa Wieza (The Leaning Tower) is another great attraction worth mentioning. I was trying to stand straight next to it hundreds of times, but I couldn’t get my balanceπ
Bulwar Filadelfijski night time panoramic view |
How have I forgot to
mention The Bulwar
Filadelfijski (Philadelphia Boulevard)? This is a beautiful
area to take a walk at any time during the day or night. In addition to running
along the Vistula River's bank, it offers stunning views of the city and the
bridges that cross over to link both banks of the river.
Day time view of Bulwar Filadelfijski |
Torun is so magical and has so many attractions that I could spend hours listing additional things to explore, however it’s time for some culinary recommendations π
- · Manekin If you are fan of different types of crepes (from sweet to savoury) this is the place for you
- · Metropolis this is one of my favourite places for a pizza, pasta and beer
- · Pierogarnia Stary Mlyn this is the perfect location if you want to indulge yourself in different types of dumplings
- · Restauracja Luizjana the best place for American cuisine and steaks
- · Chleb i Wino you should visit this restaurant if you like Italian dishes

Where could you stay if you came to visit? Torun has a wide range of hotels at reasonable prices; I've included a few that are worth mentioning below:
